Sorcha is a native of Carlow town and holds a first class honours BMus degree in Composition and Performance from Maynooth University. She is currently studying towards an MA in Composition, also at Maynooth.
Her love of music was first nurtured in Scoil Mhuire gan Smál primary school in Carlow as a member of the Presentation Band under the direction of Sr. Anna Hyland. This sparked her interest in both violin and piano, which she then pursued further at Carlow College of Music.
Her passion for music continued into secondary school at St. Leo’s College where Sorcha had the opportunity to be part of the school orchestra, the folk group and the chamber choir. Since then Sorcha has remained an active musician within her local community through her involvement in the music ministry of Carlow Cathedral, first as a member of the Carlow Cathedral Folk group and later a musician for the Cathedral Parish Choir.
Her main instrument is violin and over the years she has enjoyed performing in many ensembles and orchestras including Carlow Youth Orchestra, County Kildare Orchestra, UCD Sinfonia and Maynooth University Orchestra. During her time studying in Maynooth, Sorcha was leader of the orchestra in 2013/2014 and winner of the Maynooth Soloist Competition2013.
Sorcha is currently teaching violin at Carlow College of Music where she is also the director of the Carlow Junior Orchestra.
