Yet again another fantastic few days were spent in Borris between the 16-18th February last for the 2nd Music @ Mount Leinster traditional music festival.
Over 80 young traditional musicians from Carlow, Laois, Wicklow, Dublin, Mayo and Sligo arrived to Carlow for a jam-packed few days of tuition and performance under the tutelage of renowned traditional musicians Zoe Conway, Jack Talty, David Power, Aimee Farrell Courtney, Niamh Dunne, Conor Crimmins and John McIntrye. The festival culminated in two public concerts on Wednesday the 17th and Thursday 18th of February in the Sacred Heart Church Borris by the professional musicians and young visiting musicians. The young musicians really excelled and showcased their talent across the three days demonstrating skill, maturity and an understanding of the Irish traditional genre beyond their years.
A huge thank you to the musicians, young musicians and the principal and staff of Borris Vocational School who supported us and allowed the school hall to be transformed into a girls and boys dorm for the three days.
The festival was once again an important social and music-making collaboration for each of the Music Generation groups that travelled to Borris, held against the back-drop of Mount Leinster.
We are already looking forward to next year’s festival which is sure to be bigger and better than ever!
