Hacketstown NS: MGC violin class directed by MGC musician Marita Nolan

Please check out this lovely footage of the Hacketstown NS MGC violin class performing during the school’s end-of-year concert, alongside their MGC teacher Marita Nolan.  The students have only been playing the violin since the beginning of 2014 and are an excellent demonstration of what MGC’S Encore programme represents.

Over 24 primary schools participated on the Encore programme this year, availing of high-quality Early Years,  Choral, Recorder and Violin tuition and we are looking forward to starting year 2 of the Encore progamme in September.  Please check out the link below!

Dido & Friends: Early Years Concert 23rd May 2014

Music Generation Carlow recently hosted it’s first Early Years concert for participants of its’ Little People Big Voices programme on the 23rd May in The George Bernard Shaw Theatre.  The show, entitled Dido & Friends, was a song and movement based concert which focused on showcasing the development of MGC’S Early Years programme in Carlow since it was launched in September 2013.

There were two sessions held on the 23rd (a morning session and a lunchtime session) which were both full to capacity with excited parents and family members eager to see their little ones performing!  MGC’S Coordinator Paula Phelan lead the musical showcase as Dido and all the childcare facilities were wonderful contributors to this special event.

This was the first Early Years song-show in Leinster and marked a special point in the development of the Music Generation programme in Carlow.  There has been great enthusiasm for the Little People Big Voices programme in Carlow and there is already a huge interest in the initiative for next year.

Little People Big Voices is a programme designed to work with staff in early years settings to deliver a programme of creative active music making.  Movement is used to develop voice hand and body coordination and to engage children in a positive relationship with self-expression in performance.IMG_6990 IMG_6991 IMG_6995 IMG_6996 IMG_7006 IMG_7019 IMG_7020 IMG_7041 IMG_7050 a IMG_7050 IMG_7052 IMG_7056 IMG_7057 IMG_7058 IMG_7061 IMG_7062

Footage of MGC Trad Gala Concert in The Dolmen Hotel Carlow, 14th May 2014

Here is some wonderful footage of our recent Trad Gala Concert held in The Dolmen Hotel Carlow on the 14th May 2014.

Participants on the night included groups from our two Trad Hubs in Carlow and Borris, as well as some really talented up and coming musicians from around Carlow.

On the night the children and young people performed a variety of Traditional Irish music, assisted by their talented teachers.  The evening closed with a wonderful group performance by our MGC Trad Orchestra which has grown from strength to strength since it was founded in September 2013.

Trad music in Carlow is fast becoming one of the most popular genres of music and it is incredibly exciting to see so many children and young people enjoying both the performance and social aspects of our MGC Trad Hubs.

Have a listen to this brilliant footage below filmed by Brian Hand!
